Landscape Design – Autumn In Santa Clarita

Autumn - Penstemon & Coreopsis

Landscape Design in Santa Clarita is a year round joy.  It is Autumn in Santa Clarita and although the leaves are not really changing yet – you can feel it on your skin, see it in the angle of the sunlight, revel in the autumn color combos and smell it in the air.

Autumn is a magical time and I thought I’d share some Autumn beauty, color, and style for you to enjoy.

Let’s start with the air, the feel of a cool morning morphing into a a warm glow during the day and sliding into dusk with it’s half warm & half cool intoxicating breeze.   The breezes bring the scents that say Fall,  eucalyptus branches torn from the last Santa Anas scent pungent and sweet at the same time.  Pine cones crunched under foot bring a nutty holiday aroma while the pine needles affixed to my dogs’ fur adds a festive note reminiscent of icicles hanging low.

Autumn - Cassia Blooms

Then there are the colors, the colors of Autumn can’t be beat especially after the hot hot glare of our summer.  Words don’t count if you can just look, my only comment will be that the Cassia blooms somehow look golden instead of yellow in this light.  During the summer they were a flash of brilliance today they are a mere echo of that brilliance but with a hint of the leaves to come soon.

Autumn - Container of Blues

Fall containers shine with blues, and grays, and don’t forget that purple.  There are blues and purples that bloom at this time of the year.  Don’t forget to take a look at some Asters, Caryopteris or Plectranthus, you can add your fall and winter perennials now they are easier to pick now than in the heat of the summer.

Autumn - Plectranthus

Go for a walk and enjoy, use these for  inspiration – planning for your third season of color is best done now anyway.  Look at what is blooming, look at the leaves changing color.

Oh, and did I mention it’s persimmon season?  Well it is – what could be better?  Maybe a beautiful Landscape Design with persimmons!
